A great way to end the season

Saturday 7 September was the last day of the season and saw two very close games of 20-20 cricket, both of which went down to the final ball. The day began when Thomas Parton and Charlie Prior tossed the coin to start the first ever Dads'n'Kids match. For some it was their first ever "proper" cricket match with a hard ball and there was some great cricket from the children in their batting, bowling and fielding which resulted in the two teams being separated by only three runs at the end of their twenty overs. Some of the dads also performed quite well.

In the afternoon adult game, Ashley Major's Men posted 154 thanks largely to a fifty from Angus Cowan who ended his lean run of form against other Clubs with some big shots. James Parton's People responded well and Charlie White scored a swashbuckling 82, though was run out on the last ball attempting a four.

The Captains presented awards to Rupert Murray (batting), Charlie Knight (bowling), Holly White (fielding), Hector Smith (young player) and Henry Smith (player of the season).

Ewen Moore was also presented with the match ball and a bottle of Champagne for his hat-trick as part of his 5-10 spell the previous weekend. There are many people who contribute in various ways to make the atmosphere at Fonthill such a pleasant one, and Dave Roberts and all the ladies who help behind the bar and with the presentation of the teas were duly toasted in thanks. Chairman Eric Tracey also presented Frieda Yeo with the shield as Club Member of the Year in recognition of and appreciation for her work as scorer over the past few years. The grounds staff, and captains were also thanked, as were the Chairman and Secretary for keeping everything running. It has been a good season with some wonderfully close games of cricket; the atmosphere is positive and convivial, and we all now look forward to next year.
